Our
Story

Broodmare Boarding

For breeding to one of ours studs please refer to the ‘Studs’ tab.

Starting December 2023 Hoff Ranch will begin offering broodmare boarding. Because successful foaling requires diligence and proper planning. We will only accept a limited number of mares for foaling. By keeping the mares in residence to a limited number, it ensures individual, hands on care.

**All mares must come to the facility with current coggins.

We use Victoria Vet Clinic (VVC) out of Victoria, Texas for all of our Veterinary, Semen Storage and Artificial insemination needs. Please be advised it is the owners responsibility to do their research on this facility as well as set up an account for charging purposes (shots, worming, AI, ultra sounds, etc.)

We will begin with a breeding plan which will include but not limited to:

Pre-Breeding Care

Veterinarian Plan

Stud location/Semen

Pre-Foal care

After foal care for both foal and mare

Re-breeding

Hoff Ranch Broodmare management offers the following services:

Pre-breeding (Pasture kept)

  • $12/ day

  • $20 per trip to the vet with the option to stay at the vet until inseminated (Est. $20/ day from vet)

  • Mixture of Grain- Purina® Ultium® Growth Horse Formula, alfalfa pellets and 14% sweet feed

  • Hay

  • Caught and groomed once a week

Once your mare begins to show signs of Estrus you will be notified and the breeding plan will be set into motion. We will transport the mare to VVC where she will have her follicles checked. Depending on how far along she is she will either be inseminated with the semen from stallion of choice, she will stay until bred or we will bring her back at the designated time suggested by the vet to have her checked again until inseminated. 14 days after insemination she will have a ultrasound to check for pregnancy. She will then be checked again at day 30. If she is in foal she will be turned out into the mare pasture to await arrival of the foal.

Mares already in foal (Pasture kept)

  • $10/day

  • $20 per trip to the vet

  • Mixture of Grain- Purina® Ultium® Growth Horse Formula, alfalfa pellets and 14% sweet feed

  • Hay

  • Caught every other week

We request that foaling mares arrive at least 30 days prior to foaling for observation and preparation. They will be pastured until foaling date nears.

Foaling

As the mare nears her foaling date, she is moved into 20x25 stall. At the first sign of labor, the foaling team is in the stall, assisting the mare until the foal is born, cleaned, treated, standing and nursing and able to be on its own with its mother. A 24hr VVC veterinarian is also on call incase any complications arise.

After Care

Pictures and or videos are taken daily to show progress of both foal and mare. Once the foal is 24hrs old we will have a vet come and do it’s first check up. At 48hrs old mare and foal will transition to a paddock during the day and back to their stall at night. Once 1 week old we will halter the foal and start gradually introducing them to leading. After a week of haltering and bonding in the stall; mom and baby are moved into a pasture living arrangement where they have the company of other mares and foals until weaning.
